Roll Ongoing 2021-24

The 'Roll' work is designed as a strategy to process an ongoing accumulation of material. This fabric lies in wait, ready to be utilised to address peripheral events as they arise.

Printed almost mechanically along its surface—sometimes on both sides—are mirrored patterns that repeat and resist easy interpretation. The selected motifs are characterised by various forms of hollowness, with the mirrored effect further denying any clear reading. The roll presents itself as material to be manipulated, inviting meaning to be drawn from its disruption.

As material is extracted from the roll to create peripheral works, the incisions are either repaired or reinstated. This continual process increases the complexity of the interwoven printed patterns and the roll's evolving structure.
