Spin to Win 2

In its second appearance, Spin to Win extends the animation to include a state where the heads jostle for position. The printed chart has been replaced by a hand-drawn version, brought out of the pocket whenever a winning combination occurs. On the wall, a monochrome chart remains. Without an index, it marks the field of possibilities rather than directing them.

During the opening of Family Matters at the Alison Richard Building, Cambridge, the Spin to Win game made its second appearance. Visitors were invited to play; for each participant, the chart was unfolded to show the possible choices available in the event of a win. On this occasion, no complete fish was formed and no prizes were awarded.

Also shown in Family Matters was a remake of the original Fish box, reconstructed by my mother, together with a glimpse of the enlarged game pieces. Both were scaled up by a third, recalling the surprise of finding the original game so small on rediscovery. The box was lit from within, the light triggered by a sensor as viewers approached the display case.
